GMA 7 remade a successful 90’s drama series; Get to know the New Anna KareNina

In a recent blogcon organized by the GMA Artist Center for the cast of their new prime time show, the remake of AnnaKarenNina, I had the chance to get to know three of the prime teen stars of the kapuso network. 

Barbie Forteza, Krystal Reyes and Joyce Ching were chosen to take the lead roles previously portrayed by then popular teen actresses Sunshine Dizon, Kim delos Santos and Antonette Taus.  To keep up with the public’s high expectation after the success of the original show is quite hard says the three teen stars, however, they vowed to do their best to give new flavors to the remade story and hopefully give justice to the roles they were entrusted to. 

Barbie shares that she doesn’t want to achieve being compared to Sunshine Dizon, who originally played “Karen” in the series.  She said she will try to give justice to the role but wanted to have it in her own ways. “Gusto ko kase itong role na ito, yun character ni Karen dito is palaban siya. Sa tingin ko, mas magiging natural yun atake ng pag-arte kase mas realistic siya, mas makatotohanan.” When asked, if the role is her dream role, “Most-different sya and andun yun challenge kaya gusto ko siya.”

Meanwhile, Krystal Reyes, who were also commendable in her portrayal in “Mga Mata ni Angelita” during her younger years shares that they didn't watch the old series since they doesn't want their acting and characterization of their roles be compromised. She personally believes that the three of them can give justice to the roles and will be able to deliver because of the continued support that their mother studio is giving them.  She also mentioned that they are very grateful with the support they’re receiving from their director, Gina Alajar and the support cast in the series.  Well, in my own opinion, Krystal can really give life to the character of “Anna” (originally portrayed by Antonette Taus) because acting wise, she really has so much to give.

Joyce Ching, the charming 18-year old chinita actress who was recently awarded as the “German Moreno Youth Achievement”, is also excited for this new project.  She’s playing the role of “” which Kim Delos Santos played before whom she described as someone who is ‘cold’ and ‘bitter’.  It seems the role would not be really a big challenge to her since she has proven herself as effective in portraying kontrabida roles in the past, but the young actress is still challenged to step up to do her best to add another recognition in her acting.  Despite that, I still find her aura very sweet and worthy to also do the ‘nice girl’ roles in the future.  For now, being an effective kontrabida is really a tough one which Joyce managed to pull off among other teen stars of her age.
